May 2024[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

 • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
 • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
 • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
 • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text Your proposed new username at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:16, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Though I work at the Getty Research Institute, my edits are not about "promoting" the organization but adding research resources on certain topics that the institute owns, such as the fact that a certain artists's archive is housed there (I have found plenty of precedent for this on other Wikipedia pages). These are facts related to artists (i.e. where their archive is located) with the idea that they are useful for users looking for information. Is the reason that these edits were blocked because I used Getty news sources? If so, in the future I can use third-party news outlets to corroborate the same information.

Decline reason:

That would be fine as a new username. Please read about conflict of interest and paid editing(employment counts as paid editing even if not specifically paid or instructed to edit) and tell us what will change about your editing in the future, as well as if there are any edits unrelated to your conflict of interest that you might make- we usually want to see that as a demonstration of your understanding of relevant policies before permitting you to indirectly contribute about the area of your COI. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:16, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot: I've tried to answer you concerns, but I'm not sure what next steps I can take to get unblocked. I also don't understand at what point my username will change--or am I supposed to create a new account? Griwebgroup (talk) 17:00, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do not create a new account. That would be block evasion. You personally are blocked, not just this account, you may not edit under any account or IP until this block is removed. We can rename your account. You have made a new unblock request that will be reviewed. 331dot (talk) 17:44, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This user is asking that their block be reviewed:

Request reason:

I would make the following changes to my editing in the future: For instance, in an edit to the Blondell Cummings page talking about an exhibition of her work, I would link out to a neutral outlet like this Los Angeles Times article (reference removed by Drm310 rather than the museum's exhibition web page. For archives owned by the institute, instead of citing press announcements, I would link directly to the finding aid in the library catalog, as is done on the Lawrence Alloway page under External Links. Where and how exactly in the course of these kinds of edits would I disclose my affiliation? Griwebgroup (talk) 22:14, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notes:

 • In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
 • Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following code, substituting with a specific rationale. Leaving the decline reason unchanged will result in display of a default reason, explaining why the request was declined.

If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following, substituting Accept reason here with your rationale:

You didn't get the method of disclosing quite right. I have removed the templates from this page. Those need to be placed on the talk page of every article you edit that is impacted by your paid relationship.

I have placed the paid template on your userpage, which is the proper central location for a paid editing disclosure.

Your unblock review is still pending, so please be patient. Like every other Wikipedia editor, admins are volunteers who take care of admin tasks whenever they have time. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:50, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I also removed the reference you wrote from within the unblock request. Please refrain from mentioning specific editing suggestions inside the request. You will have ample opportunity to do so if you unblocked. Thanks. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:55, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
