Trying to avoid conflict or excessive overlap with Template:Great Officers of State in the United Kingdom. The problem is that few of the officers of the Middle Ages are found in the modern Household. There is no article on the English Seneschal for example.
Note that this list was not intended to be comprehensive by including every officer there ever was but to emphasize the "tight" group that "managed" the king during turbulent times = only a select few he could trust. Student7 (talk) 22:46, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The template currently contains an entry for "Senechal", which links to Lord High Steward. Given that the Lord High Steward page doesn't even mention the word "seneschal" (under any spelling), and the template's main page, Royal Households of the United Kingdom, doesn't explain any connections between the two positions at all (I _believe_ that the Lord High Steward evolved out of the position of William's Ducal Seneschal in Normandy, but Wikipedia doesn't seem to say so anywhere…), that's at best highly confusing, and there doesn't seem to be any good reason to leave the confusion and then figure out how to resolve it when we can just eliminate it.
It's also spelled wrong, and it's italicized (with no indication of what italics are supposed to mean), and it's listed as if it were an abolished position rather than an existing position that's just vacant except during special occasions.
If I'm wrong, and there is some kind of official list of the Royal Household that lists the Lord High Steward as "Senechal" (using the modern French spelling, minus the accents, in place of the English and Norman spelling?), then maybe it should be added back in parentheses or something—but it's almost certainly more important to first edit the pages to cover that. --157.131.246.136 (talk) 05:57, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
