Ossanda Líber João Filipe Cruz dos Santos (born 15 September 1977) is a Portuguese politician of Angolan descent.[1] She is the founder and current President of Nova Direita, a conservative political party.
She was a candidate for Mayor of Lisbon in the 2021 local election, a candidate in the European constituency in the 2022 legislative elections, and was vice-president of the Alliance party.
Biography[edit]
Liber was born in the Angolan capital Luanda in 1977.[2] She is a citizen of Portugal, Angola and France.[3]
She was an unsuccessful candidate Mayor of Lisbon and for Lisbon City Council in the 2021 local election, representing the civic movement "Somos Todos Lisboa".[4][5]
In April 2022, Ossanda Líber established a new party, Nova Direita,[6] whose signatures were delivered to the Constitutional Court in March 2023. The first time she tried to establish Nova Direita as a political party, it was rejected by the Constitutional Court due to the lack of the minimum number of 7500 signatures. The second time, in December 2023, the Constitutional Court rejected the application for registration as a political party of the New Right movement, considering that the statutes did not meet the legal requirements.[7]
Nova Direita was registered by the Constitutional Court on January 9, 2024. The party contested the 2024 Portuguese legislative election but won no seats.[8]
In April 2024, she spoke at the National Conservatism Conference.[9][non-primary source needed]
