Elected Governor

TBD

Gubernatorial election will be held on North Sumatra in 2024 alongside other local elections nationwide to elect the Governor of North Sumatra to a five-year term.[1] The election will be held on 27 November 2024.[2]

Electoral system[edit]

The election, like other local elections in 2024, follow the first-past-the-post system where the candidate with the most votes wins the election, even if they do not win a majority.[3] It is possible for a candidate to run uncontested, in which case the candidate is still required to win a majority of votes "against" an "empty box" option. Should the candidate fail to do so, the election will be repeated on a later date.[4]

A political party or coalition of parties must held at least 20 seats in the North Sumatra Regional House of Representatives to be able to field a pair of candidates for Governor and Vice Governor.[5]

Incumbent governor Edy Rahmayadi is eligible for reelection for the office of Governor of North Sumatra.
